Number One by Major Lazer and Grandtheft (Review)

Review of Number One by Major Lazer and Grandtheft

There seems to be a real moment for reggae and dancehall at the moment that will probably grow and gather momentum in time for the summer jams.  Number One by Major Lazer and Grandtheft hops right on and rides that wave.

Whilst it doesn’t exactly carry a vocal of any meaning, it utilises dancehall sounds and utilises that vocal and makes music from it.  Add to that an old type or irie vibe to the music, a massive dollop of deep bass and the trademark Diplo (Major Lazer) EDM sound and there you have it. One huge banger.  They have turned Johnny Osbourne‘s classic in to a monster hit that will fill dance floors everywhere, the world over.

I am not normally a fan of this commercial dance/EDM but the dancehall aspects just make this work and I encourage you all to listen. Number One deserves to be just that.  If you like it you can download free of charge on the soundcloud link.
