Music Eyz 2015 Awards
As eyes descend on Big Ben and across the globe for the end of another year it is customary to take a look back. The year has been a mixed one. An election, terrorist atrocities, war, the 1D split/break and the loss of several well known people close to all of us. We have also had some great new acts emerge (see our 2016 Ones To Watch) and some great music in general.
So, we are no different. Our 2015 Awards are here to celebrate (and poke a little fun) at what happened in music in 2015. Have a quick read and let us know your views. There is one award which has yet to be decided and thats where the fans come in.
Each category will show the full nominees and our winner will be highlighted and of course have a pic to show their award
Best Solo Female
This is a tough category with many great female vocalists both established an emerging. The return of Adele, the bright lights of newcomers Izzy Bizu and Andra Day.
There has to be only one winner though. Congratulations on a fantastic comeback – Adele
Best Solo Male
The male category has a whole mix of different artists, with the standard RnB singers, some rappers and of course a former teen favourite, this is potentially the most eclectic category.
The winner has to be Kendrick Lamar for a fantastic year including great festival performances and an incredible album
This category, like always is dominated by boy bands, but fear not, there are a couple of others in there to mix things up a little.
The winner is of course the lovely Little Mix. The girls have come out of everything with some great new music, despite some of the distractions in their personal lives. They seem to have matured and offer themselves as credible role models for young girls
Best Hip Hop Artist
Regular readers of Music Eyz will know we have a big love for all things urban and specifically, Hip Hop, so this one is tough. With the UK emerging through the grime scene and getting heat overseas who will come out on top?
Krept & Konan
As he won the best male, beating several mainstream people, there had to be only one name for this category, yes you guessed it. Kendrick Lamar wins again
Best Pop Act
This category is where the money is. We have limited this to the real mainstream pop though that the younger readers would buy. These are the ones who have armies that literally know everything about them.
The winner is – Taylor Swift. She has had ridiculous success over the past year and has toured with a Whos who of famous friends, guests and faces.
Best Rock/Indie Act
If you like your music laced with guitars either delicately played with good rhythm in the drums or ear splitting screeching of electronic axes, this is the category for you
The Black Keys
A tough call as each act is quite different so tough to call. However The 1975 are our narrow winners here. They provide a full feel to their music and are great ambassadors for real UK music. Watch out for the new album due for release early 2016
Many industry experts claim that the album is dead. However it is still a genuine reflection on an artists ability and an album can be the difference between flash in the pan and some longevity. Who nailed it in 2015?
Get Weird – Little Mix
25 – Adele
To Pimp A Butterfly – Kendrick Lamar
Black Market – Rick Ross
Made in the AM – One Direction
Growing Pains – Maria Mena
This was a two-horse race in my humble opinion. The box office smash of Adele and the incredible offer from Kendrick. Both were great collections of music, but Kendrick Lamar our man of the year is the winner. Big mention for Maria Mena though, Growing Pains is a great album
There has been some amazing tracks out in 2015 and to create a shortlist was virtually impossible. But we have done our best, hopefully you all agree with our list.
Hotline Bling – Drake
i – Kendrick Lamar
White Tiger – Izzy Bizu
Hello – Adele
Uptown Funk – Mark Ronson ft Bruno Mars
Hold Back the River – James Bay
Black Magic – Little Mix
Our winner, after much deliberation is Hotline Bling by Drake. It may not be the most popular, it may not be the track with most longevity, but if you hear this in a club or on the radio you see an immediate reaction. Even writing this, I can’t stop singing it, Drake you are our winner.
Best Music Video
Videos are part and parcel of the music industry. Some go for the full big screen effect and others take a more gritty real effect. As music is now a mainstay of youtube the video is more important then ever
Bad Blood – Taylor Swift ft Kendrick Lamar
I Really Like You – Carly Rae Jepson
Margarita – Mas Ysa
L$D – A$AP Rocky
Elastic Heart – Sia
Borders – MIA
Alright – Kendrick Lamar
For sheer brilliance in its creative execution and relating visuals to a great song, the winner of the Best Video Category is L$D by A$AP Rocky
Best Fans of 2015
Who has the best fans? This one is over to you, whether we get one vote or a million, you will decide
2015 draws to a close we need you. The finishing touches to our 2015 Awards are in. But who has the best fans?
— Music Eyz (@musiceyz) December 30, 2015
We have already ear marked our Ones To Watch for 2016 but who was the best of the newcomers for 2015.
Years and Years
Up until recently, we would have probably made Rae Morris our winner for this one. Really breaking through after featuring on the boohoo summer ad, she has gone onwards and upwards. But one man has taken over and even had a (failed) campaign for Christmas number one. But Stormzy is our winner for best newcomer in 2015.
Let us know what you think to our awards. Get talking about it and remember still time to vote in our best fans category.
