Review of Jellyfish by Laura Stevenson

If you haven’t yet heard of Laura Stephenson you should give her new single ‘Jellyfish‘ a try. Its an upbeat single that sounds fun until you listen a bit harder.  Laura is a mistress of lyrics and this song is no exception.  With lines such as “I’m fucking hideous and spiteful when I’m left to my devices” and “same thing I wish for every new year cause I’m losing, I’m a loser
They do come true within everyone but myself”.  Definitely a song of hidden self deprecating depths and worth more than one listen.  She has a real gift of taking self loathing and making it sound fun (hmmm….).
Have a listen here
She is definitely different with her indie folk sound and definitely worth listening to.
Her upcoming album Cocksure is out 6 November via Don Giovanni Records.  Stevenson was raised in Nassau County, New York and has toured with the likes of Gaslight Anthem and Against Me! The album’s a step in a new direction for Laura Stevenson following 2013’s Wheel album, with a confident take on themes of uncertainty and anxiety.
