Top 10 Selling Albums of 2014
The other day the Official Charts Company announced the Top Selling Albums of 2014 (so far anyway). Whilst some argue that the charts have become less important and that people consume music in so many ways, the announcements are still waited eagerly by industry people, artists and fans alike.
This year is no different, so here we go, in true Chart Show style, here is the chart countdown.
10. Bad Blood by Bastille
The album was met with a mixed reaction, however nobody can doubt the popularity of the London band. There material just keeps selling.
9. AM by Arctic Monkeys
Arctic Monkeys have had quite a big 2014 so far. They are widely acknowledged as one of the best UK acts at present. This was completely endorsed by a huge festival season for them this year. With that in mind it came as no surprise to see them in the Top 10 Selling Albums of 2014, despite it being released in 2013.
8. If You Wait by London Grammar
The trio London Grammar seemed to appear from nowhere. Their enchanting blend of great pop hooks combined with first class trip hop beats result in an album that has to earn a place in your collection. We are not on our own here, hence If You Wait appearing at number 8 in the Top Selling Album list of 2014
7. Girl by Pharrell
As gamers would say, Girl is completely OverPowered by the massive hit Happy. Or in other words, there is no doubt the album sold bucket loads purely due to the hit being featured. Perhaps had the single not sold quite so many, it would have been even higher. Pharrell is definitely the golden child at the moment. Girl is under 40 minutes long, but it isn’t just Happy. From start to finish it is covered with catchy urban pop
6. Halycon by Ellie Goulding
Ellie Goulding is a lucky girl. Her album Halycon managed to get to number 6 in the Top Selling Albums of 2014. She is also making massive waves in the US. Halycon though, doesn’t really offer much above her previous album which had hits such as Lights.
5. A Perfect Contradiction by Paloma Faith
Jazzy pop crooner Paloma Faith’s ‘A Perfect Contradiction’, her third studio album, claims fifth place in this list of 2014’s UK best-sellers to date, shifting an impressive 342,000 copies since March.
4. Caustic Love by Paolo Nutini
Paolo Nutini’s ‘Caustic Love’ is at number 4 with 440,000 copies sold in the UK alone. 109,000 of those sales were in its first week, making it one of the year’s fastest sellers too.
3. Ghost Stories by Coldplay
Just who keeps buying these Coldplay albums? Well it would seem nearly half a million of you. Please stop though, as you have made them make even more records and put them in to third place in the top selling albums of 2014. Zzzzz
2. In The Lonely Hour by Sam Smith
Now, many of you will know, we backed Sam Smith ages ago. His undoubted ability to knock out a croon is unparalleled in todays quick pop society. However, we were a little disappointed by the album. Not that there was anything wrong with it, we just expected a little bit more. You lot loved it loved with just under 500,000 sold in the UK and also some great numbers in the US.
1. X by Ed Sheeran
Can this buy do no wrong? Ed Sheeran is perhaps the most popular ginger singer ever. His album X has now gone double platinum. It features some great tracks and there no wonder his popularity has translated in to album sales. We salute you Mr Sheeran
