Introducing Irish Band Darling

There’s a new rock band on the Irish block that are also partial to bit of your electro pop and they go by the name of, Darling. Tipped to be “Today FM, Hot Press, GoldenPlec, The Thin Air & Revolver Project Acts to Watch for 2014”, this Dublin band have been getting a lot of airplay recently with their latest release Sail Away. As a result, recognition from the Dublin masses is following hot on their heels now.

It’s an absolute corker of a tune from the off. When I first blasted it out I was heading for the shower and that opener with the guitar followed by those definite drum beats?! I was blown away. I didn’t exactly drop my towel but I did turn the shower off and sit on the loo watching the video, the day ahead of me having to wait.

The vocals are beautiful and enticing and I love the fact that Gary sings in his native accent. That for me is always so honest and so very refreshing. The lyrics, written by this fine duo are haunting, they’re catchy and the video directed by Scott Altman draws you in to the story perfectly. It reminds me of the couple of years I spent growing up in Donaghmede where a kid had to learn hard and fast how to get back up and get on with life when they had been knocked down. Character building stuff and that’s what this tune is to me, character building and launching this band to the top section of the Irish pop-rock arena.

Gary Harding and James McGuire are Darling and judging by their site content and tweets this couple of sweeties has an endearing personality with a wickedly good sense of humour to match and that lads, will always get you far with the ladies 😉

Darling play Whelans, 5th July.
