Interview with Drastic and Jay S

Where do you live?

Long Island, NYMany of our readers are UK based and as such may not be aware of you or your music .  How would you describe your sound?

Drastic: I would say we have a Jazzy bounce to our sound
Jay S:  It’s soulful, our music has feeling because it’s things we’ve experienced. It’s just different.

Tell us about your latest release

Jay S: Our latest project, More Than Music is scheduled to be released Mar 25th
Drastic: It took us about a year to complete because we wanted this release to translate who we are and show our fans our growth as artists. There is at least one song on this album that anyone can relate to.What was your motivation for this latest release?

Drastic: Separating ourselves from everyone else. We want to be the first to bring Long Island back into the music scene.
Jay S: Being heard is what motivates me. Motivating others who can relate. We make great music and feel that we just need the right person to hear us.What influences are there that helped shape your sound?

Jay S: I would say what influences us is great music. There isn’t a specific artist that influenced us. We just like music that’s different. What is the music scene like in your home town?

Drastic: (laughs) It feels like everyone makes music here. There’s some good music out here, its just that Long Island has a lot of undiscovered talent and it continues to be overlookedHow did you get started in music ?

Jay S: My cousin was the one who told me that I should make music. It started as a hobby, but now its what I want to do for the rest of my life
Drastic: I was always musically inclined but as I got older I decided to take music more seriously a career that I would pursue. What hints and tips would you offer to anybody trying to get in to music ?

Drastic: If you’re going to pursue music as a career than be prepared to invest a lot of money, invest time, and prepare yourself for disappointment when things don’t work out. If you can get passed that, then you’ll make it.
Jay S: Also, if your going to get into music, you must take it seriously and keep it consistent, but don’t forget to have fun when you’re making music.

If you weren’t in music, what do you think you would be doing and why

Drastic: If I wasn’t in music, I’d be playing basketball because that’s the only thing I love besides music.

Jay S: Damn, who knows, maybe in college, or in the military like the rest of my family, because what else is there to do that’s greater than music besides acting.

If you could collaborate with any body, who would it be and why?

Jay S: Probably Drake or Schoolboy Q because i relate to them more than other artist.
Drastic: Erykah Badu and Sade because those are the artist my mom played as I was growing up and I fell in love with their soulful music.Just how big can you be?

Drastic: I think I speak for the both of us when I say that if someone gave us the opportunity, we could be huge. We make good music and our sound is different. Are there any acts that you think our readers should be keeping an eye on?

Jay S: Besides Us (laughs) I would say other rappers from our area, like Aceo and Tony English. They’re basically family. You got a few others like YS and Da Don Vet.In terms of your music, what does success look like?

Drastic: When music is my only occupation.

Jay S: Living comfortable and financially well.

Do you have any plans to visit the UK?
Drastic: We’ve never been, but we both would love to go. Maybe even perform if the opportunity presents itself.
