Review of the new single Heaven Knows by The Pretty Reckless
After having had the ‘pleasure’ of reviewing the latest release last year from the Butcher Babies I really wasn’t looking forward to doing a review for another rock band fronted by a sexy lead singer.
Their new single came out this week and can be seen at this link: http://po.st/HeavenKnowsVid
The intent is to help launch launch their new album Going To Hell that comes out on the 17th March on Cooking Vinyl.
For those of you who don’t know this band The Pretty Reckless formed in 2009 and released their debut album Light Me Up in 2010 and a follow-up EP Hit Me Like A Man in 2012. After two years on the road supporting Light Me Up, the band has risen through rock ‘n’ roll’s ranks to become a polarizing presence. Over the course of their debut album and EP, the quartet has sold over 1 million combined albums and digital singles and have supported Evanescence, Guns N’ Roses and Marilyn Manson on tour in addition to headline runs in both the U.S. and abroad. Momsen and her bandmates delivered nothing short of killer performances on their just-wrapped headlining North American Going To Hell Tour with a set list including new material off Going To Hell and the group’s debut LP Light Me Up.
OK – so for the review…
There isn’t anything in this song that hasn’t been done before and all in all a pretty mediocre piece of rock music. OK so the video itself is pretty good with smouldering lead Taylor Momsen picking her way through this piece. However, for me this really is way down the road in terms of something that listeners are going to like.
This can’t compare to their October 2013 release Going To Hell
Going To Hell is another matter entirely. A sex charged video with great vocals and strong axe work that makes this classic rock at its best. This is a brilliant piece and much more like what you would want to see from this band.
Advice: don’t compromise and keep away from creating commercial smaltze. Heaven Knows why they wanted to release this new video to launch the album.
The band will join Fall Out Boy on the Save Rock And Roll European Tour 2014,starting February 28, 2014 in Madrid, Spain (complete list of tour dates below).
