Review of Polaroid Picture the new EP from Frank Turner
“Frank Turner is releasing a new EP (Polaroid Picture) on 3rd February to coincide with his February arena tour. The recent Celebrity Mastermind winner (specialist subject Iron Maiden!) is heading to the following venues:
06 – CARDIFF Motorpoint Arena
07 – NOTTINGHAM Arena
08 – EDINBURGH Corn Exchange
09 – MANCHESTER Arena
11 – PLYMOUTH Pavilions
12 – LONDON O2 Arena
13 – PORTSMOUTH Guildhall
The EP contains the following tracks:
1. Polaroid Picture
2. The Modern Leper
3. Plea From A Cat Named Virtute (live)
4. Who’s Got A Match
5. Sweet Albion Blues
The title track is taken from last year’s Tape Deck Heart album. It is one of the stand-out tracks from that album in my opinion and harks back to some of his older tunes on “Poetry of the Deed” from 2009.
It is classic Frank Turner with earnest lyrics, and an upbeat its-time-to-jump-about chorus. While the chorus might not be as singalong as previous songs, the lyrics as always with Frank, are worth listening to. This one is about memories, things changing in life over time and how we should treasure those good memories. He gets kudos from me for mentioning the venue that I went to my 1st gig at..the legendary Astoria!
The EP is backed with 3 cover versions; a Frightened Rabbit tune (“The Modern Leper”),The Weakerthans (“Plea from a cat named Virtute”), Biffy Clyro (“Who’s got a match?”), and one new original tune called “Sweet Albion blues”.
The EP is being released as a download and also on CD direct from Frank Turner’s official site: http://frankturner.sandbaghq.com/music/polaroid-picture-ep-cd.html“
