Review of Hold It Done by Sonny Fodera ft Amber Jolene
Australian born Fodera has been releasing his own tracks and remixes on a variety of labels for several years now, such as Kitsam Recordings, Cajual Records, Drop Music, Large Music, Guesthouse, 4Kenzo, Nervous Records. Although mainly house based he is making a point of taking influences from other genres to good effect.
His new single, released on the legendary Defected label features the vocal talents of Amber Jolene. It starts with a simple house beat as the vocals ease themselves in, Amber repeating the track title. The tune doesn’t properly start until the bassy synths kicks in, but once it does it matches well with the vocals.
The tune itself is very basic and simple, the vocal repeats the lyrics as the synths stop and start. The last two minutes are simply constant vocal loops over the beat, which is obviously designed for a DJ to mix his next track into and for nothing more.
Before this section however, it is a track that bounces along and would keep any house based dancefloor going.
The remix by Cause & Affect seems to have more about it, adding extra bass and snare to the synths along with the looped vocals of the original.
All in all a nice addition to Fodera’s repertoire, albeit not really showing off too much of his non house influences.
