Review of Wireless Festival 2013
So the day FINALLY arrived – Friday 12th July 2013 – Wireless Festival Day 1! I couldn’t have been any more excited if I tried. The weather was amazing and I could tell the day was only going to get better.
Friday was the day that the one and only Justin Timberlake was headlining and I could barely contain my excitement! Usually the event is held at Hyde Park but this year it was all about the Queen Elizabeth’s Olympic Park and I have to say seeing it for the first time, it was absolutely HUGE!! The main stage was a good walk from the rest of the stages and so it was a bit of an adventure to make it to stages on time for performances.
The acts that graced the various stages on Friday including Yahoo! Stage, Pepsi Max Stage and SBTV stage that I had the pleasure of seeing were great. The first artist I seen was a guy called WizKid and he was great! There was such a great vibe in the tent and everyone was enjoying it, dancing and singing along the energy was unreal. I’ve heard a few things from here but seeing him live was so much better. I also saw Miguel an amazing vocalist from America who I absolutely love! his voice is so soothing and I love his album ‘Kaleidoscope‘. He was such a great performer and as he performed on the Main Stage the energy was electric!
John Legend then followed and he certainly lives up to his name, the performance was flawless and he is so talented playing his piano and giving it 100% from start to finish. As my Friday night continued more great and inspiring artists graced the stage – I stuck to the Main Stage with the likes of Trey Songz, Snoop Dogg who certainly got the crowd going followed by the main man himself Mr Justin Timberlake! All of which were incredible and Mr JT certainly gave a to die for performance singing some of his classics as well as his new stuff from ‘20/20 Experience‘. The whole vibe and reaction from the crowd was electrifying and I love that feeling you get when you see artists performing live and you look around everyone is singing along, dancing, smiles on their faces totally lost in the moment, and that’s exactly how I was all day long. There’s no greater feeling that watching your favourite artists perform the hits you love!
Some of the other artists performing on the Friday to name a few were the likes of Conor Maynard, Bluey Robinson, Wretch 32, Kesha, Little Mix and Sub Focus – and that is just a few. There was such incredible talent there on at the same time it was hard to catch people I would have really loved to see!
If I thought the Friday was good, then the Saturday, I was not prepared for. Headlining the night was none other than the hip hop Legend Jay Z! Who has been in the industry for as long as I can remember producing some of the greatest hits of all time! Starting my day off however was the talented Devlin who has a great flow to his music and his lyrics are on point! I then stuck around in the Pepsi Max Stage tent for Naughty Boy who has just had a great hit featuring Sam Smith called ‘La La La‘ which everyone has got to have heard as well as being joined on stage by him and special guest Emeli Sande who’s talent is endless! The whole tent was dancing and singing along and the buzz inside you just cant describe it.
Then came Iggy Azalea an Australian rapper who moved to America to break the music industry and boy is it working. She was great on stage her presence was felt throughout the whole performance and she knows exactly how to work that stage and the crowd! She is definitely one person I was looking forward to watching live.
Moving down to the main stage to watch Kendrick Lamar was my next mission, I HAD to see him this weekend – and he certainly didn’t disappoint. Tinie Tempah was then a special guest at the Pepsi Max Stage and it was that packed, people were stood outside the tent all cramped up trying to catch a glimpse of him and watching him on the few TV screens that were set up. This guy has come so far and shows no signs of letting up performing hit after hit and when the beat for ‘Pass Out‘ dropped – that was it – everyone was going crazy!
It was then the turn of DJ Calvin Harris – who whenever I see perform puts on a great show and he knows exactly how to work his magic – again the tent was packed and people were outside listening.
It was after that the hundreds and thousands of people started to make their way down to the main stage to watch Jay Z – the music started and that was it – the crowd was on their feet – the speakers thumping out Jay Z and the crowd watched in awe as he took to the stage like the professional he is! – Playing both old and new stuff from his latest album ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail‘ – all the way to classics like ‘Bonnie and Clyde‘ and ‘Crazy in Love‘ which feature none other than his beautiful wife Beyonce – who no doubt will have been watching him!
From start to end the energy was unbelievable – people singing along and getting involved – to end the show he also brought out Mr JT to perform their new track ‘Holy Grail‘ which was incredible to see both artists live together.
Overall my weekend was incredible – the weather was amazing and the music and atmosphere even better! It’s definitely not something I’ll be forgetting in a hurry. Roll on 2014 that’s all I can say ….
