Review of Soon Come by Shy FX ft Liam Bailey
Nothing quite gives me the summer vibe than an injection of Jamaican. By that statement, I don’t mean a drop of rum, but a great traditional summer reggae vibe. Bob Marley does it all the time. There was also that summer, back when I was a kid, when chart reggae dominated the charts, Chaka Deamus and the Pliers, Shaggy, Bitty McLean and Eddy Grant. Yes very little of that year was credible but it gave the summer feel.
Its been a while since a genuinely credible summer reggae sound hit us. Well here it is, from dancehall king himself Shy FX. From the opening bars you get a feel of traditional reggae, the classic beat and steel drums mixed with a slightly more contemporary beat.
The vocals on ‘Soon Come’ are delivered with masterful ease and backing up the uber laidback feel that you need from any quality reggae joint. The track is from the forthcoming Shy FX album ‘Cornerstone‘ and on the basis of this I can’t wait to put that in my headphones.
‘Soon Come’ is a brilliantly produced, low fuss, Jamaican enthused reggae hit. This teaches some of the young pups how to do it properly. All I need now is some Jamaican style weather to match.
