Review of We Can’t Stop by Miley Cyrus
Right, I am starting to get a little worried. Firstly I listened to a track by The Wanted with the preconception that I was going to hate it, but quite liked it. I was then thinking, OK normal service will be resumed, I have the latest track from Miley Cyrus to review. I hate country music and not a particular fan of those clean cut americans. So America’s own Miley Cyrus is a sure fire track to hate.
How wrong could I be? Maybe the drastic change of look should have given it away.
On opening ‘We Can’t Stop‘ a slowed down male voice opens “Its our body we body we can do what we want” with Miley Cyrus’ vocals backing. OK not normal but a slight change. Then bang a proper beat kicks in with some raw piano. Miley then kicks in with genuinely good vocals, yes her slight southern twang is in there, but this can’t be mistaken for country, this is proper mature music.
The composition, whilst not complex, is extremely well produced, combining a number of factors. The whole feel is really lively and upbeat. The lyrics whilst receiving a lot of criticism, particularly from the conservative areas of the US show a real two fingers to critics and it has a genuine rebellious streak.
The references to drugs and sexual acts have caused a stir with do gooders and sections of the media alike. However Miley Cyrus also has a number of high profile supporters of ‘We Can’t Stop’ including Demi Lovato and Britney Spears. The latter admitting to being unable to stop playing the track.
Either, I am feeling very ill tonight, or this is a solid track. I genuinely feel the single is quality and Miley Cyrus could have a monster on her hands.
