Review of How It Used To Be by Sam Dickinson
You never know what to expect when you hit play on a new song or artist that you’ve not heard of before. And it was no different, the first time I pressed play on Sam Dickinson‘s, a guy from Newcastle, new video for single ‘How it used to be‘
I have to admit from the first second I wasn’t keen on it and the video didn’t really grab my attention. The song isn’t really the kind of music I’d generally listen to and it didn’t really make me think wow. Don’t get me wrong the guy has a good voice, and personally I think he’d be better suited in stage shows or musicals and not in the charts. That isn’t to say he wouldn’t be successful…
His whole look and style is unique and I guess it would appeal to a lot of people and it just goes to show individuality. To me, the video isn’t very eye catching and it gets a bit boring and so it kind of makes the whole song boring. It’s a very classic sounding song, with a bit of a soulful vibe which would appeal to a lot of people also. His voice is quite powerful, and he has a lot of control. He seems to love what he’s doing and it shines through in his performance throughout.
Overall, I don’t have much to say on this track, I don’t want to put it down as it is a lot of peoples style and sound, unfortunately it isn’t my cup of tea.
