Review of Goin’ Crazy by Dizzee Rascal ft Robbie Williams
Now if you are a regular reader of Music Eyz you know that we are pretty keen on Dizzee Rascal. He has always been one of the stalwarts of the UK urban scene. He has gone from full grime, to hybrid hip hop/dance classics in his collaborations with Calvin Harris and the award winning Dizzee has even gone more pop.
The thing about Dizzee Rascal is that he has always been able to embrace the latest trends on the urban scene and produce anthemic numbers. This was perhaps epitomised by his previous single ‘Bassline Junkie’. So Dizzee Rascal‘s newest track ‘Goin’ Crazy‘ from his forthcoming album ‘The Fifth’ must be up there, right? Well how can it fail? I mean it even has pop heavyweight Robbie Williams featuring.
OK, well the fact Robbie Williams features should actually be a hint as to what to expect.
Firstly the video is inspired. Both Robbie and Dizzee ride around on pimped out Quadrophenia style plastic pigs aka mobility scooters. Dizzee also starts off in a spike enthused car. Robbie is at is effervescent best with characteristic faces and cocky poses.
The track kind of falls a little flat though. Its a shame, because we are massive Dizzee Rascal fans. Sadly the blend of Robbie Williams and Dizzee Rascal doesn’t really work. Robbie is kind of phased back and his voice seems so heavily treated it is hard to recognise him. The pop backing track fails to lift things either.
As you would expect though, Dizzee Rascal‘s delivery is tight. He uses his trademark quick flow and London twang to great effect and whilst the lyrics may not be groundbreaking, he pulls it off.
Whilst I have criticised the track particularly Robbie‘s part, I have to admit after a few listens it does grow on you a little. With this in mind, I think it is likely to score Dizzee and Robbie a top ten hit. It just won’t rank among his best work for us.
