Review of Still Sway & Kane by Sway ft Kano & Tigger Da Author
I’m back like snapbacks! Yup, I’ve been away for a while despite the big man at MusicEyz HQ asking me to review things. For those of you who don’t know about me, I’m Dan Slater, aka Phatslates, and have an eclectic taste in music. I truly believe, that but in reality, don’t really show it, as I’m all about the Hip Hop and Grime!
Anyway, the reason I’ve not been around much recently, is I’ve not been feeling a lot of stuff recently, so I’ve been spending a lot of time listening to some old school stuff instead. I’ve been going really old school, getting back into Big Daddy Kane, KRS One and Rakim. Then I brought it to some newer stuff like DMX, Dre and some Master P, and then really got back into the UK scene. And I’m sure if you were to be asked, what were two of the best albums by UK Urban acts in the last 10 years, you’d be hard-pressed not to say Sway’s “This is my demo” and Kano’s “Home Sweet Home”. See where I’m going with this?
So imagine my surprise when in my inbox, is the latest track by Sway, featuring, yup, Kano! Oh, hell yeah!
Sway is back, and is comin’ hard. Since the great success he experienced a few months back with tracks like Level Up, he’s decided he’s gonna take it back and give us that fast paced rap that I loved on tracks like “Up Your Speed” from back in the day. And going back to my intro paragraph to this review, he’s taken it old school too, as this track samples Dr Dre’s ‘Still D.R.E.’, one of my all time favourite head bangers. I still have a hard time thinking that track was over 10 years ago now. Madness. Anyway, the sample is a bit slowed down, but has some sped up drums over it with some more electro sounds. It’s a great mash up of styles that really works.
Then we get the features. The hook is sung by Tigger Da Author, someone I’ve only heard one or two things from, but his voice over the hook sounds dope. I definitely wanna hear more from his cat. And then we’ve got the 2nd verse, laid down by the big man K A, that’s right, Kano is back and brings it hard. I absolutely loved his intro line, simple, but made me just go, “YES BOY!!!”. “Now which mutha fucka wants to be Kano? Eenie, meenie, miney, mo?”. Dunno why I liked it so much, but I guess it’s why I like M&Ms so much, cause it’s sweet, nuff said!
Anyway, the track is awesome, a great sound that will make you think of Dre, old Kano, old Sway, but also brings a modern twist that really gets my head bopping.
Anyway, enough about my rabbiting on about it, check out the video below, and hit us up on the comments below, or tweet @MusicEyz or @Phatslates with your thoughts on the track. Did you like it, did you wish you were riding your ’64 Impala through Brixton as a result?
