Not Your Hair by Lady Lykez ft Lady Leshurr, Lioness & Stush (Review)

Review of Not Your Hair by Lady Lykez ft Lady Leshurr, Lioness & Stush

‘Not Your Hair’ is a comical, fun take on, well weaves. Lady Lykez chooses an all female cast to back her up here and this works in her favour as it promotes the latest musical craze of upcoming female rappers. The beat has fat saw synths in the chorus and heavy bass throughout making it more of a blank canvas to rap over and show skills than anything else.

Lady Lykez is the artist out of all four rappers which is the most noticeable and dominant with Lady Leshurr and Lioness‘ verses being easily forgettable. However these two do show a good future for British female rappers and still add variety in the track. Lady Lykez has a dominance and confidence in her chorus and makes the most of her rap which is the longest; her stride is never broken up, having the best flow on the track. Lyrically, Lioness produces the most interesting rap meaning her inclusion was a good idea.

With a good beat and great verses from the future Queens of hip-hop, nothing looks to daint the beat. However I find Lady Stush‘s lines a bit too out-of-the-box for a simple track and while she has a flow a lot would be envious of, her rapping style doesn’t quite follow with the other three girls and it just seems like an odd jigsaw puzzle piece thrown in. The chemistry between the lot hides this problem slightly and makes the whole song much more of a fun, enjoyable listen.
