Review of I Heart You by Toni Braxton
Toni Braxton is back. She was one of those soul/RnB divas from back in the day that just delivered belters one after another. She never really got the credit she deserved with the likes of Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston stealing headlines. One thing you could never doubt was Toni Braxton had and has a ridiculously powerful voice.
I don’t know about youm but I have had a bit of time on my hands recently and I have caught the ads for the Braxtons show. What will they say about this? Well no idea, but this is what we think.
So Ms Braxton is back with her new number ‘I Heart You’. The track starts out quite minimalistic, helping to show off Braxton‘s stunning vocal ability. This sounds like a classic ballad, however, you always get the impression as she drives through the vocals in an ever more powerful way that something is going to change.
Sure enough the minimalistic music changes, with a bit of a piano key change and change of pace, then the beat moves up a gear. I am sure it is meant to be a modern dance beat, but it just shouts a bit disco to me, Gloria Gaynor stylee. Now that isn’t a crticism, it just works.
Then when you get comfortable with that, the music changes again and you move in to a proper dance backing track. All of this complex production and one thing remains constant, Toni Braxton belting out stunning and powerful vocals.
This is a tune. If I am honest, I prefered listening to it without watching the video. Sadly the video is a little cheesy for my tastes, but that shouldn’t distract you from what is a really good track.
