Artful on UK Tour
Remember Craig David? Remember the whole UK Garage movement? Well if you have been hiding under a rock or limiting your exposure to the outside world we have some news for you. There is a bit of a renaissance going on in the UK music scene. The UK Garage scene is back. This resurgence is in part being led by Mark Hill aka Artful and the writer and producer of some of Craig David’s biggest hits.
It seems ages ago since we last spoke to Artful. You can read the interview with Artful last summer.
So we update you on Artful’s tour and give you some insight from the man himself.
Artful told us: “After a long break from the Music Industry, It seemed like a very exciting time once again for UK music, and it’s a bit of a mad co-incidence that there seems to be renewed interest in the UKG sound”
Artful once one-half of Artful Dodger is now producing and creating some epic tunes of his own. To showcase this and his immense skills to a new generation of UK Garage fans, Artful will be embarking on a seven leg UK tour. The mix of old and new is evidence that the Artful live experience will be worth viewing.
Artful said, “The live experience seems to play a big part in being an Artist/Producer these days and I couldn’t wait to get out and perform the new music, as well as performing some of the older tunes for the first time with a live band.”
With four Ivor Novello awards, a number one album, two number one singles and over 10 million records sales worldwide to his name, Mark was one of the key figures of UK garage’s first wave, responsible for popularising the sound back in the late nineties, with “Rewind” considered by many to signify the cross over of Garage from the underground to the mainstream, followed by the now classic album, It’s All About The Stragglers.
Fast forward to 2012 and Mark is back, releasing under the name Artful and armed with a collection of new music bearing his signature polished production and unquestionable song writing abilities showcasing his new Future Garage, Dubstep influenced, UKG and RnB tracks.
“To begin with i resisted the temptation of making UKG tracks, but the more I experimented with those kind of beats mixed with Dubstep and Grime influences, and modern technology, I got really excited about what was being created.” said Artful
Having introduced the world to the likes of Craig David and Corinne Bailey-Rae, Mark has a knack for working with and helping to break future stars and once again he is working with the cream of the UK’s emerging talent, collaborating with the likes of Ed Sheeran, Donae’o & Terri Walker.
Artful said, “It was important for me to build new songwriting relationships with current artists to keep my production and writing fresh, and got lot’s more collabs coming too”
Artful will be supported on stage by a full band and joined by the great vocal talents of Donae’o and Terri Walker performing not only some of the new tracks but also playing some of the old Artful Dodger classics.
Artful finished off by saying, “I can’t wait to see peoples reaction to hearing the old and new stuff done live by such great musicians and vocalists”
